Description

TheProject Manageris responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and management of projects. They will work with teams of engineers, architects, designers, etc. to ensure that all projects are completed on time and on budget.  The Project Manager must be able to effectively manage multiple projects at once while still providing clear direction to their team members. They also need strong communication skills to coordinate with clients or other stakeholders throughout the process.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES & FUNCTIONSinclude the following, others may be assigned.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all project-related communications, both internally and externally. Establish and maintain strong relationships with clients, vendors, and other stakeholders. Understand client needs and objectives and develop detailed project plans to meet those goals.
  • Planning, directing, and coordinating the development and execution of engineering projects throughout the project life cycle. This will include creating FEL documents for all phases of the projects based on the Stage-Gate approach.
  • Oversee all aspects of project execution, including scope, schedule, budget, quality, risks, and change management. Schedule, track project controls, and manage the execution of engineering projects with Primavera.
  • Works closely with the assigned Project Leads creating and managing project plans, resources, and deliverables. Support Project Leads with creating EWR Effectively manage project teams, including engineers, designers, drafters, and technicians. Coordinate with multiple disciplines to ensure that all aspects of the project are considered.
  • Supports maintenance efforts as required to ensure reliable and correct operation of equipment.
  • Provides technical process information to organizations by answering questions and requests.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional organizations as applicable.
  • Trains others in areas of proficiency or expertise.
  • Understands and follows all organizational policies, procedures, and rules, ensuring that all laws are obeyed, and equal employment, safety and environmental protection are practiced.
  • Must be able to work more than eight hours per day or forty hours per week on any shift or travel as needed.  Must be available for call-in as needed to support 24-hour/7 day per week operational requirements.
  • Consistently demonstrates prompt, regular, and reliable attendance.
  • Communicates development and career goals to immediate supervisor and takes ownership of personal development plan.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES & FUNCTIONS
This is a non-supervisory position.

Direct Report Job Titles:

  • No direct reports.  Although individual will work with Engineering & Construction Manager to determine work priorities for multi-discipline Designers, Project Leads, and several contractors.

Qualifications

Minimum

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in related engineering discipline
  • Experience:  Seven (7) or more years of engineering experience in a chemical plant or similar manufacturing setting with demonstrated skills and results in the areas of project management (small-$25k to large-$1m capital projects), troubleshooting, problem-solving, and system/process improvement.

Preferred

  • Education:  Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Degree.  Engineering Project Management certificate or master’s degree is a plus.
  • Experience:  Seven (7) or more years of engineering experience in a chemical plant or similar manufacturing setting with demonstrated skills and results in the areas of project management (small-$25k to large-$1m capital projects), troubleshooting, problem-solving, and system/process improvement.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:  Professional engineering certification (PE), PMP Certified

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Reading/comprehension, speaking and writing at required education equivalency level.  Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business correspondence, technical/product information, policies/procedures, or government regulations.  Ability to complete written forms and write routine to complex procedures, reports, and correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions in a group or individual setting.  Good interpersonal and communication skills are crucial to success in the position.

Ability to speak conversational French is a plus.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.  Ability must be consistent with required educational equivalency level.

COMPUTER SKILLS
Proficient in Oracle Primavera, Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Familiarity with AutoCAD or SAP software considered a plus. Proficiency in relevant SAP modules preferred.

COMPLEXITY
The work includes varied duties requiring many different and unrelated processes and methods be applied to a broad range of activities and/or substantial depth of analysis within a particular area.  Decisions include areas of uncertainty in approach, methodology, interpretation or evaluation resulting from such elements as continuing changes, technical developments, unknown phenomena or conflicting requirements.  The work requires originating new techniques, establishing criteria, or developing new information, and requires a strong results orientation and outstanding ability to establish priorities, communicate needs, negotiate collaboration among stakeholders, and execute project plans to timeline.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work requires both sedentary and limited physical exertion to include sitting; walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, books or small parts; climbing stairs and ladders repetitively when required.  Work routinely requires speaking and hearing (expression or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words and perceiving sounds by ear).

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment requires normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting, and training rooms, personal or commercial transportation methods.  Requires use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals, etc.  Generally, the work area is well lit, heated, and ventilated.  The work environment also includes outside work and work in the production areas which may be hot or cold, and work that requires special safety precautions such as working around moving parts, machinery in operation or working with irritant or hazardous chemicals.  Employees may be required to use protective clothing or gear such as masks, gowns, coats, safety shoes, boots, goggles, gloves, safety glasses or shields and noise protection.
